What Is the Golden Triangle?

The Golden Triangle is the name travellers use for the loop between Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. The three cities form a rough triangle on the map, each within 3.5 to 6 hours' drive of the others, so you can see a remarkable range of Mughal and Rajput history without long-haul travel between stops.

It is popular for good reasons: it covers the Taj Mahal, several UNESCO World Heritage Sites, India's capital and the Pink City of Jaipur in under a week, and it connects easily to longer routes through Rajasthan, Ranthambore or Varanasi. How Many Days Do You Need?

A common structure is 2 days in Delhi, 1 to 2 days in Agra and 2 to 3 days in Jaipur, roughly 5 to 7 days in total. The route can be compressed or extended depending on your schedule:

• 3 days: the essentials at a brisk pace, with one night in Agra and one in Jaipur. See our 3-day Golden Triangle tour.

The Route: Delhi → Agra → Jaipur → Delhi

Most trips start and end in Delhi because that is where international flights arrive. The usual loop is:

Drive times vary with traffic, especially leaving and entering Delhi. Because the Taj Mahal is closed on Fridays, the order of the cities is often adjusted around your dates.

Delhi

India's capital combines Mughal-era sites like Humayun's Tomb and the Red Fort with British-era New Delhi and the dense, walkable old city around Chandni Chowk. Two days is ideal: one for Old Delhi (Jama Masjid, a rickshaw ride through Chandni Chowk, the Red Fort from outside or inside) and one for New Delhi (Humayun's Tomb, Qutub Minar, India Gate). Agra

The Taj Mahal is the centrepiece, best seen at sunrise, paired with Agra Fort and the delicate Baby Taj (Itmad-ud-Daulah). Jaipur

Rajasthan's capital is known for Amber Fort, the City Palace, Hawa Mahal and the Jantar Mantar observatory, along with the distinct pink-washed architecture of its old walled city. Getting Between the Cities

Private car with driver is the most flexible option for the full route. It avoids juggling separate train or flight bookings, lets you stop along the way (Fatehpur Sikri between Agra and Jaipur, or the Chand Baori stepwell at Abhaneri), and keeps your luggage with you.

Train works well between Delhi and Agra, where fast morning and evening express trains take around two hours. Best Time to Visit

October to March is the most comfortable season, with warm days and cool nights. December and January mornings are cold and can be foggy in Delhi and Agra, which sometimes delays trains.
