Golden Triangle with Ranthambore: Complete 6–8 Day Itinerary
The classic route is Delhi → Agra → Ranthambore → Jaipur → Delhi. Six days gives you the Taj Mahal at sunrise and two jeep safaris; seven days adds a third safari or a slower Jaipur; eight days adds a rest day and time for Fatehpur Sikri or Abhaneri. Travel by private car, book safari permits early, and plan between October and June.
Why Add Ranthambore to the Golden Triangle?
Ranthambore sits between Agra and Jaipur, so adding it costs only two nights and no backtracking. It brings something the cities cannot: mornings in the forest, the chance of a wild tiger and a quieter pace in the middle of a busy trip. The 6-Day Itinerary
- Day 1 – Delhi: arrive; Old and New Delhi highlights. Overnight Delhi.
- Day 2 – Delhi to Agra: drive about 3.5–4 hours; Agra Fort and the Baby Taj; sunset from Mehtab Bagh. Overnight Agra.
- Day 3 – Agra to Ranthambore: Taj Mahal at sunrise; drive to Ranthambore, stopping at Fatehpur Sikri. Overnight Ranthambore.
- Day 4 – Ranthambore: morning and afternoon jeep safaris, rest at midday. Overnight Ranthambore.
- Day 5 – Ranthambore to Jaipur: drive about 3.5–4 hours; City Palace, Jantar Mantar, Hawa Mahal. Overnight Jaipur.
- Day 6 – Jaipur to Delhi: Amber Fort in the morning; drive back to Delhi (about 5 hours).

The 7-Day Itinerary
Follow the 6-day plan and add one of these:
- An extra safari night in Ranthambore, for three or four drives across different zones and a better chance of a tiger sighting.
- A full second day in Jaipur for Nahargarh, the bazaars and a relaxed evening.
- An arrival buffer day in Delhi if you land late or want to recover from a long flight.
The 8-Day Itinerary
- Day 1–2 – Delhi: one day for Old Delhi, one for New Delhi.
- Day 3 – Agra: drive to Agra; Agra Fort, Baby Taj, Mehtab Bagh at sunset.
- Day 4 – Agra to Ranthambore: Taj Mahal at sunrise; Fatehpur Sikri on the way.
- Day 5–6 – Ranthambore: three to four safaris with time to rest by the pool.
- Day 7 – Jaipur: drive to Jaipur, with an optional detour to the Chand Baori stepwell at Abhaneri; city sights in the afternoon.
- Day 8 – Jaipur to Delhi: Amber Fort; return to Delhi or fly out of Jaipur.
Transportation
A private car with driver for the whole loop is by far the easiest option: the Agra–Ranthambore leg is long, and a car lets you stop at Fatehpur Sikri. Approximate drive times are Delhi–Agra 3.5–4 hours, Ranthambore–Jaipur 3.5–4 hours and Jaipur–Delhi about 5 hours, with Agra–Ranthambore taking most of a day including the Fatehpur Sikri stop. Sawai Madhopur, the town next to the park, is also on the main railway line, and you can fly out of Jaipur at the end.
Safari Planning
- Book permits as soon as your dates are fixed. They are limited, need passport details and sell out early for peak dates.
- Choose a jeep over a canter if available.
- Plan at least two safaris; three or four if tigers are the priority.
- Avoid the monsoon closure, usually around July to September.
- Pack warm layers for winter morning drives.
Tigers are wild and sightings are never guaranteed. Safari rules, zones and timings are set by the Rajasthan Forest Department and can change.
