How the Free Walk Works

In short: a 2.5 to 3 hour walk through Agra's Mughal-era old city with a government-certified local guide, covering Kinari Bazaar, the sweet and spice markets, Jama Masjid and Mankameshwar Temple. It runs every day, starts at your hotel, and there is nothing to pay upfront: at the end you tip the guide what you think it was worth.

No entry tickets are needed. The only costs are the tuk-tuk rides, which you pay the driver directly, and any sweets or snacks you choose to taste. Your guide picks trusted shops and makes sure prices are fair.

Itinerary

  1. Meet at your hotel

Your guide meets you in the lobby. A tuk-tuk ride takes you into the old city.

  2. Agra Fort Railway Station

A short stop outside the British-era station to see how India's railways move millions of people a day.

  3. The lanes of Akbarabad

Walk the old Mughal city: carved doorways, old havelis and small workshops.

  4. Jama Masjid Highlight

Agra's great Friday mosque, built in 1648 and dedicated by Jahanara Begum, Shah Jahan's daughter.

  5. Kinari Bazaar and the cosmetics market

Shoulder-to-shoulder lanes of bangles, wedding trims, perfume and colour.

  6. Sweet market Tasting

Try fresh Indian sweets and Agra's famous petha, straight from the makers (you pay for what you taste).

  7. Spice market

Sacks of chilli, turmeric and cardamom, and how Mughal cooking used them.

  8. Mankameshwar Temple

One of Agra's oldest Shiva temples, still at the heart of daily life in the old city. Your guide then helps you find a tuk-tuk back.
