Taj Mahal Ticket Price 2026: Fees for Foreigners and Indians, Booking and Rules
A Taj Mahal ticket costs ₹1,100 for foreign tourists, ₹540 for SAARC and BIMSTEC citizens and ₹50 for Indian citizens. Going inside the main mausoleum costs an extra ₹200. Example: two adults from the USA who want to go inside the mausoleum pay ₹2,600 at the counter, or ₹2,500 if they book online, because each foreign-tourist ticket is ₹50 cheaper online.
The SAARC rate applies to citizens of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka; the BIMSTEC rate adds Myanmar and Thailand. Carry the passport that matches your ticket category, because staff can ask to see it.

Taj Mahal ticket types
There are three things to understand before you buy:

Children under 15 do not need a paid entry ticket. Foreign-tourist tickets have traditionally included shoe covers for the mausoleum platform and a small bottle of water.
How to buy tickets
You can buy tickets online through the ASI's official ticketing website, linked from tajmahal.gov.in, or at the ticket counters near the East and West Gates. Buying online in advance saves money and time at the counter, especially at sunrise in the busy season (October to March).
Be careful with look-alike websites and with people outside the gates offering to "help" with tickets. Buy only through the official ASI channel or the official counters. If you travel with us, your guide can buy the tickets with you so you go straight to the right queue.
Opening times and the 3-hour limit
- The Taj Mahal opens 30 minutes before sunrise and closes 30 minutes before sunset, so the exact time changes through the year. See our Taj Mahal timings by month.
- The Taj Mahal is closed every Friday. Plan your Agra day around this.
- Since 2019, day visits have been limited to three hours inside the complex, and an extra charge can apply if you stay longer.
- Sunrise is usually the quietest and coolest time to visit.
Night viewing
Night viewing is offered on the night of the full moon and the two nights before and after it, except on Fridays and during the month of Ramadan. Visits run between 8:00 PM and midnight in eight batches of up to 50 people, each lasting 30 minutes, and tickets must be bought in advance. Dates and availability change, so confirm with the ASI before you plan around it.

What you can and can't take inside
- Allowed: phone, camera, wallet, passport, a small bag and a water bottle.
- Not allowed: food, tobacco, tripods, drones, large bags, knives and similar items.
- There are lockers near the gates for things you can't take in, but it's easier to leave them at your hotel or in your car.
